We are supposedly supporting the rebels in Libya because of human rights abuses.
Tom Malinowski who goes around touting about human rights abuses( for a huge salary) was a registered lobbyist and was a top candidate to head the State Department’s Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Bureau and remains a possible candidate for various other foreign policy posts. This of course would require a waiver ( an underhand ploy of the Government).
One such waiver was given to Deputy Secretary of Defense William Lynn, who On February 11, 2009, Lynn was confirmed in the full Senate by a vote of 93–4. He took the oath of office on February 12. Why would so many Senators vote for him? It could be them next in the hot seat. It’s all about the Money Swiss President Micheline Calmy-Rey said: “It cannot be that right at our door some people embezzle state funds and put them into their own pocket.”Mubarak and Al-Qaddafi had indeed amassed their fortunes corruptly and hid them in foreign banks, why did Switzerland, the European Union and, for that matter, the United States wait until they were overthrown to do something about it?
What about our Senators here in the United States! They start out earning a senators salary but by the time they retire they are flying about in private jets. Can the ordinary working man on the same salary end up with their personal yacht? I doubt it. Why? Because he does not get back- handers from lobbyists. But so far none of our senator’s assets have been frozen. I’d love an explanation for that conundrum.Shouldn’t governments committed to promoting democracy and transparency try to identify and freeze dictators’ dirty money while they are still in power, when it might change their behavior? Or are asset seizures merely a departure tax that fallen autocrats pay as they run out.
